GANGWON-DO WEATHER
This is the stage of When the Buckwheat Flowers Bloom, which is considered the highlight of Korean short literature, and is where Gasan Lee Hyo-seok was born and raised. In 1990, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism designated it as the “No. 1 Cultural Village in the Nation,” and with Hyoseok Cultural Village in the background, a festival called the Hyoseok Cultural Festival is held every year in late August to early September when the buckwheat flowers bloom. There are Lee Hyo-seok's birthplace, water mill, Chungju House, Gasan Park, Lee Hyo-seok Memorial Hall, and Buckwheat Local Museum, and buckwheat flowers bloom around the mountainside, just like in the novel. The Hyoseok Cultural Festival, held every year in early fall, is receiving a lot of praise as a simple, themed festival with rich local flavor, offering a variety of attractions based on literature and buckwheat. The Naman-dong area, where buckwheat flowers are in full bloom, is being visited steadily by those who pay tribute to the teacher's literary spirit. During the festival, there will be a field trip to the background of the work, a national Hyoseok Contest, a street folk performance, a costume procession featuring the main characters in the work, a photography contest, and a play and movie performance when the buckwheat flowers bloom. Representative foods made with buckwheat include buckwheat noodles and buckwheat pancakes.
