水原は朝鮮時代の 4 つの主要な地方政府の中心地の 1 つでした。都市を守るために築かれた華城は、その歴史的価値が認められ、1997 年 12 月 12 日にユネスコの世界文化遺産に登録されました。この要塞では毎日さまざまな公演が行われるほか、毎年秋には水原華城文化祭が開催されます。城壁は八達山を中心に5,700キロメートルにわたって延びている。 1794 年から 1796 年にかけて建設されたこの城塞は、正祖大王の父に対する親孝行の表れであり、独自の経済力を備えた新たな開拓都市を建設するために建てられました。
