峰精寺據信是由義相大和尚於 672 年建造的。然而，其他文獻似乎表明該寺廟是由義相和尚的弟子Neungin Daedeuk建立的。在韓戰期間，許多與寺廟有關的文獻被毀，許多歷史資料都遺失了。 1972年，在極樂殿重建工程中，發現了極樂殿於1363年修復的記錄。
