全羅北道茂朱市にある積上山(標高1,034m)は、断層岩の断崖壁に囲まれている。山頂の盆地には「積山湖」と呼ばれる湖があります。そして、湖を囲む尾根に沿って、8,143メートルにわたって伸びる積尚山城が立っています。高麗時代、この地域は戦時中の民間人の避難場所でした。城壁は朝鮮時代に築かれました。
