대릉원 고분군 내에 있는 천마총은 1973년에 발굴된 고분이다. 천마총은 돌과 흙으로 쌓은 지하실 안에 나무관을 안치한 것으로 신라시대의 전형적인 상류층 무덤이다. 마운드는 x_height가 12.7m이고 직경이 50m이며 하천에서 수집한 암석층으로 구성되어 있습니다. 암석층 아래에는 길이 6.5m, 너비 2.1m, 높이 x_2.1m에 이르는 나무 방이 있으며 중앙에 나무 관이 있습니다. 우리나라 고분에서 최초로 출토된 예술품인 천마도를 포함하여 총 11,526점의 유물이 무덤에서 발견되었습니다.
