원래 경상북도 영주시 순흥부 행정구역 북쪽 금성에 세워졌던 순흥향교는 1718년에 순흥부 행정 구역 동쪽 위야동으로 이전했으며, 1750년에 다시 현재 위치로 이전했습니다. 남쪽을 바라보고 있는 이 고대 유교 학교는 전경에 강이 흐르는 산기슭에 위치해 있습니다. 금성단에서 죽계 재월교를 건너 왼쪽 길로 가다가 청다리마을회관에서 좌회전해 조금 더 올라가면 닿는다. 현재 운흥향교에는 유학과 관련된 귀중한 자료들이 소장되어 있습니다.
