바래봉은 거꾸로 된 바릿대(사찰의 승려가 사용하는 나무 밥그릇)와 닮았다고 해서 붙여진 이름이다. 산의 특징은 둥근 경사면과 봄철 철쭉꽃밭이 특징이다. 트레킹은 운봉읍에서 1.5km 떨어진 용산마을에서 시작된다. 트레일은 목장 뒤의 숲 보호구역을 지나 정상까지 완만한 길을 따라갑니다. 정상에 오르기 전 산책로의 마지막 구간은 4월 하순부터 5월까지 철쭉이 만발한다. 정상에서 바라보는 풍경은 지리산 전체를 담고 있다.
