GANGWON-DO WEATHER
This temple was founded by Master Uisang in the 6th year of King Munmu of Silla (666). A pond inhabited by nine dragons was filled in at the site of the main hall, and the temple was founded as Guryongsa Temple. It is said that it was renamed Guryongsa Temple. Also, according to 『Chiaksan Guryong Temple History』, it is recorded that it was founded by Doseonguksa, a high monk of the late Silla Dynasty. Currently, a roof tile engraved with letters from the 45th year of Kangxi has been excavated, showing that Guryongsa Temple was rebuilt in the 32nd year of King Sukjong (1706). To the left and right in front of the main hall are Seosangwon, Bogwangnu, Jeokmukdang, and Simgeomdang's temples, as well as Wontongmun, Guksadan, Four Heavenly Kings' Gate, Beomjonggak, and Eungjinjeon. At the entrance to the temple, there is a stupa built during the Joseon Dynasty, and there is also a turtle rock that tells the legend of Guryongsa Temple and a Yongso under the waterfall. There is also a Hwangjanggeum sign made during the Joseon Dynasty, which is a sign prohibiting unauthorized logging of pine forests around Chiaksan Mountain.

* The legend behind the name of Guryongsa Temple *

Costume and There is a legend about the nine dragons. Originally, there was a pond at the site of the main hall. It is said that nine dragons lived there. While Uisang was heading towards Chiaksan Mountain, he looked in all directions and saw that Birobong Peak, the main peak, was rising to the east, and the falling veins of Cheonjibong Crossing in front of him, and the scenery of the valley was also beautiful, so he thought that this was a good place to build a temple. So, to fill the pond and build a temple, he competed with dragons in martial arts. The dragons soared up first. Then a thunderstorm struck and all the mountains were submerged in water. The dragons were happy and looked around, and Uisang had tied a rope to Birobong Peak and Cheonjibong Peak, tied his boat, and was sleeping in it. Next, the costume moved. I drew an amulet and placed it in the pond. Then the pond began to boil and the dragons were so hot that they ran wild. At that time, eight startled dragons broke the mountain in front of the temple into eight pieces and fled to the East Sea, while one dragon was so blind that it could not escape with them and stayed in the pond. That is why the name of the temple was Guryongsa (九龍寺). As time went by, the temple fell into disrepair, and one day an old man appeared and told the temple to cut off its energy because the turtle rock at the temple entrance had weakened its energy. If we did that, the temple became more difficult and was about to die. This time, a monk appeared and gave advice. The temple declined because the turtle's blood vessel was cut off, so it is necessary to reconnect the blood vessel. So it is said that the name of the temple was changed to Guryongsa Temple.
