위봉산성 군립공원은 전주 북쪽, 벚나무 터널을 지나 송광사를 지나는 곳에 위치해 있다. 공원에는 위봉폭포폭포, 위봉사, 동화저수지 등 주목할만한 관광 명소가 있습니다. 윈봉산성 군립공원은 1675년 숙종 때 축성한 윈봉산성이 전쟁이나 국가비상사태에 대비해 조선 태조의 영정과 왕족의 위패를 보관하기 위한 피난처로 조성된 자리에 조성됐다. 원래는 경기전과 조경묘에 모셔져 있었는데, 동학농민혁명으로 전주가 함락되자 초상화와 위패를 성 안의 작은 궁궐로 옮겼다. 원래 성곽은 둘레가 16㎞로 북·동·서에 3개의 문이 있었으나 현재는 반달 모양의 서쪽 문만 남아 있다.
