V-Train中的“V”代表“山谷”，因為它穿過江原道和慶尚北道的偏遠山區。由於列車行駛在白頭大干山脈中，其外部飾有白虎圖案，因此也被稱為“小白虎列車”。列車運行速度為每小時30公里，鐵岩線除外，列車通常減速至每小時27.7公里，讓乘客有時間欣賞外面的景色。為了提供沿途懸崖和山谷的清晰視野，火車牆壁（不包括天花板）的大部分都被製成了玻璃窗。乘客可以隨意打開和關閉車窗，讓新鮮的山間空氣進入。
