산복도로에서 부산항까지 내리막길을 내려가는 가장 빠른 길이다. 계단의 높이는 6층 건물 높이에 정확히 168단으로 알려져 있다. 예전에는 계단 아래에 3개의 우물이 있었는데, 물이 부족할 때 주민들이 줄을 서서 물을 길곤 했으나, 지금은 식수를 공급하는 우물이 1개만 남아 있다.
