|
Inbong Primeval Forest (Natural Monument) is the only one in Ulleungdo located on flat land and has a diameter of approximately 2km. At the end of past volcanic activity, underground magma escaped to the surface and the empty space formed in the underground collapsed under the weight of the ground, forming a hollow topography like a bowl, where water accumulated and became a caldera lake. Afterwards, nearby sediments flowed into the lake, piled up, and the water drained out, forming the flat area that we see today. Also, the Seonginbong Primeval Forest has not been interfered with by humans for a long time, so many rare plants grow there.
