It is a famous mountain with a height of 741.20m that rises from the Honam Plain while the Noryeong Mountain Range extends to the southwest. It belongs to the southern district of Naejangsan National Park. Baekamsan Mountain’s spectacular scenery is in no way inferior to Naejangsan Mountain. Strangely shaped rocks such as Baekhakbong Peak, Sangwangbong Peak, and Sajabong Peak are scattered throughout the area. During fall foliage season, the hiking course starts from Baekyangsa Temple, goes up Yaksu-dong Valley, passes Sangwang, the highest peak, and comes down to Crane Rock. This is because you can feel like you are going through a tunnel of autumn leaves in Yaksu-dong Valley and see the autumn leaves around Crane Rock reflected in the backlight. This place, especially famous for its nutmeg trees and gray-striped squirrels, is also home to Baekyangsa Temple, the main temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It is said that the name Baekyangsa Temple originated from the legend that a white sheep gained enlightenment after listening to Zen Master Hwanyang giving a sermon.
