Gwanggyosan Mountain is the main mountain of Suwon, protecting the city from the cold winds coming from the north of Suwon. Its original name was Gwangaksan Mountain, but it is said that it was renamed Gwanggyosan Mountain by King Taejo of the Goryeo Dynasty. Gwanggyosan Mountain is a mountain that stretches approximately 2km north to south between the Gyeongbu Expressway and the Seoul-Suwon road and is located in Sanggwanggyo-dong, Suwon-si. The ridge of the mountain is very quiet and gentle, and there are thick trees in between, making it a place where you can enjoy forest bathing or a day hike in peace. Since ancient times, Gwanggyosan Mountain has been called one of the eight scenic views of Suwon, and the beauty of the scenery of snow falling on Gwanggyosan Mountain and piled up on the trees, called Gwanggyojeokseol (光敎積雪), was selected as the first among the eight scenic spots. Until 1994, entry to the mountain was completely restricted in the fall (1 month) and spring (3 months) due to concerns about forest fires, but since the fall of 1995, it has been open year-round to provide a resting area for residents and expand opportunities for leisure use, and damaged hiking trails and nature In order to allow the natural forest environment to restore the landscape on its own, the Gwanggyosan Rest Year System has been implemented in stages every three years since February 1, 2003.
