Hwadam Forest is an ecological arboretum located in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, 40 minutes from Seoul. The LG Evergreen Foundation focused on restoring the ecosystem of our forests and created 17 theme gardens with over 4,300 species of domestic and foreign native and introduced plants on a 165,265㎡ (approximately 50,000 pyeong) land. Hwadam (和談) in Hwadam Forest means ‘talking politely,’ and Hwadam Forest aims to be an ecological space where humans and nature can communicate. We preserved the vegetation of our forest as much as possible and created an eco-friendly ecological space so that anyone who loves nature can comfortably visit it. In addition, thanks to the fact that it was created by preserving the natural topography and vegetation as much as possible, you can see a variety of trees naturally located along the valleys and ridges of Nogobong Peak. For the disabled, the elderly, and children who want to go for a walk but are unable to trek due to physical discomfort, the entire 5km forest walking path is a gently sloping deck path so that they can relax and enjoy nature while riding in a stroller or wheelchair. It has become very popular with family visitors. Major theme parks include Korea's largest 'Moss Garden', 'Birch Forest/Hope Stone Tower' with over 1,000 white birch trees, and 'Bonsai Garden' which exhibits 250 luxury bonsai, the largest number of varieties in Korea. You can see the beautiful flowers and trees found in our forests, including over 480 species of maple trees. In addition, as part of the species restoration project, Hwadam Forest, together with the National Park Service, is researching and creating a habitat environment for ecological restoration of endangered species native to Korea, such as fireflies and mandarin ducks. Thanks to these ecological restoration efforts, we can easily encounter familiar salamanders, hedgehogs, and squirrels throughout Hwadam Forest. In addition, it operates a freshwater fish ecology center and an insect experience center.
