서울연극제는 40년 넘게 서울을 대표해 온 연극예술축제이다. 1977년 대한민국 연극제의 발전을 목표로 '대한민국 연극제'라는 이름으로 시작됐다. 2017년부터는 독창적인 공연을 선보이면서 우수 공연의 초연과 재공연을 해석하고 개최하는 축제로 발전했다.
