江华善院寺遗址是1976年东国大学江华岛学术研究队在江华岛周围进行地表调查时首次发现的。 1977年被指定为史迹第259号。 宣院寺是1245年（高丽高宗32年），即抗战时期迁都江华岛后不久，由崔愚将军建造的。抵御蒙古入侵。
这座寺庙本来是对抗蒙古的精神支柱。它曾经与松光寺并称为韩国最大的两座寺庙之一。然而，该寺在朝鲜时代初期被彻底毁坏，只剩下遗址。目前保存在陕川海印寺的著名木版《八满大藏经》据说最初存放在宣院寺。朝鲜时代，这些木刻被认为是从宣院寺运到兴川寺的，世祖时期又被运到海印寺。 建筑工地位于山坡上，推测位置南北延伸250米，东西延伸170米。 |
