孟思成是天白裡的重要人物，也是朝鮮王朝初期的宰相。他的房子是韓國最古老的私人住宅，最初是崔英將軍的住所，後來他將其移交給了他的孫女婿孟思成 (Maeng Sa-seong)。簡易住宅的院子裡種著兩棵600年樹齡的銀杏樹。因此，它被命名為“杏壇”，意思是孔子在銀杏樹上講學，象徵學問之地。因此推測，孟思成有意在院內種植銀杏樹，並教導後輩學者。兩棵銀杏樹乘涼，每年結出五袋銀杏果。
