孟思成是天白里的重要人物，是朝鲜王朝初期的宰相。他的房子是韩国最古老的私人住宅，最初是崔英将军的住所，后来他将其移交给了他的孙女婿孟思成 (Maeng Sa-seong)。简易住宅的院子里种着两棵600年树龄的银杏树。因此，它被命名为“杏坛”，意思是孔子在银杏树上讲学，象征着学问之地。因此推测，孟思成有意在院内种植银杏树，并教导后辈学者。两棵银杏树乘凉，每年结出五袋银杏果。
