동래읍성지는 산과 평지가 결합된 대표적인 성곽이다. 고려 말, 조선 초에 축성된 성으로 1592년 임진왜란 당시 치열한 격전을 벌였던 성이다. 패전 후 방치되다가 1731년 중수되면서 성의 규모가 더욱 커졌다. 성에는 성문을 보호하기 위해 추가로 반원형 암벽을 갖춘 많은 문이 있었습니다. 일제 강점기에는 성벽이 대부분 훼손되고 난산 성벽만 남아 있다. 2000년 이후 부산시는 유적 발굴과 성터 보존 및 복원을 시도해왔다.
