江華善院寺遺址是1976年東國大學江華島學術研究隊在江華島周圍進行地表調查時首次發現的。 1977年被指定為史蹟第259號。
這座寺廟本來是對抗蒙古的精神支柱。它曾經與松光寺並稱為韓國最大的兩座寺廟之一。然而，該寺在朝鮮時代初期被徹底毀壞，只剩下遺址。目前保存在陝川海印寺的著名木版《八滿大藏經》據說最初存放在宣院寺。在朝鮮時代，這些木刻被認為是從宣院寺運到興川寺的，世祖時期又被運到海印寺。 建築工地位於山坡上，推測位置南北延伸250米，東西延伸170米。 |
