요선정은 맑은 계곡물이 흐르는 계곡에 자리잡고 있습니다. 정자 옆에는 '요선남'이라는 글자가 새겨진 큰 바위가 있습니다. 통일신라시대에는 지금의 요성정 자리에 작은 암자가 있었습니다. 이 암자는 사자산 자락에 흥녕선원을 창건하여 불교의 가치와 원리를 가르쳤던 도윤스님과 징효스님이 자주 드나들었습니다. 현재 정자 옆에는 작은 석탑과 여래좌상이 모셔져 있습니다.
