A thousand-year-old temple nestled in Obongsan Mountain. It started as Baekam Seonwon in 973, changed its name several times, went through a reconstruction process, and became Cheongpyeongsa Temple, which is what it is today. Lee Ja-hyeon, a scholar from the Goryeo Dynasty, left his official position and stayed here to create a garden taking advantage of the natural topography. Yeongji, which preserves the original form of a pond from the Goryeo Dynasty, clearly shows traces of this. Unfortunately, as time passed and the Korean War occurred, many relics were lost. The relics that remain to this day include the Cheongpyeongsa revolving door (treasure), the Cheongpyeongsa three-story stone pagoda (Gangwon-do cultural property data), and the Jinrakgong stupa. The revolving door, the pride of Cheongpyeongsa Temple, replaces the Four Heavenly Kings Gate and is a gate with the meaning of awakening the mind to reincarnation. At Cheongpyeongsa Temple, there is a tale of a princess and a snake. There is a legend that a princess who suffered from being stuck by a Sangsat snake came to Cheongpyeongsa Temple to offer Buddhist prayers and the snake fell away. That is why the three-story stone pagoda of Cheongpyeongsa Temple is also called Gongju Pagoda. Cheongpyeongsa Temple is not a large temple, but the surrounding natural environment is beautiful, and artificial elements such as the palace and grounds are beautifully harmonized. For this reason, the area around Cheongpyeongsa Temple is designated as a scenic spot. Cheongpyeongsa Temple can be accessed not only by land but also by boat from the Soyang River Dam dock.
