Description of art	“Korean Peninsula: Light” (1995) is a work from Park’s later years, part of the “Korean Peninsula” series created during a period of intense activity following his trip to Europe in 1991. Using tiny cubes interconnected to form a structure, this work sprawls in all directions as if made of light. With rhombic symmetry, this form represents the hope that the Korean Peninsula can achieve a brilliant oneness through the integration of multiple tiny forces, as the entire form achieves complete unity when its constituent parts can sustain each other. The array of cubes converges toward the center circle and diverges while still retaining balance, ultimately symbolizing the Korean Peninsula and its emergence from a single root. The work created the same year under the same title depicts a metallic human figure with its arms outstretched. Or rather, it appears as if the light originating from the center that sprawls in all directions is presented in geometrical form. Park’s choice of light as his subject, coupled with the themes of affirmation and hope, reveals that his perspective on Korean history and the status quo of the Korean Peninsula is not based on a self-destructive reproach or resentment but boils down to optimism for the future.
