Description of art	The shadow of death looms over “Wing 9011” (1990). For Hong, the shadow surrounding the wings and face imply death, as if a spirit has been separated from the body. In a life of desperation where living is almost the same as dying, Hong has attempted to overcome reality. This work was created after Hong Soun held his very first solo exhibition in the U.S., which showed him to be an artist who had persistently thrown himself into his art even in times of confusion, desperation, and poverty.
