Description of art Choi Myeong-yeong (1941- ) rejected Art Informel movement of the 1960s, and preferred geometric abstract. He began to be interested in the two-dimensional plane in the mid 1970s and since then produced black and white monochromic works. In his works, empty space as a condition to form a plane came to be given a meaning as a space in the spiritual sense. Choi intended to structuralize the two-dimensional plane, and finally introduced square forms made by regularly repeated lines. His latest works are marked by structuralization of the conditions for the two-dimensional plane through tiny traces left on the surface, and the use of geometric figures and monochrome. Such new features can be interpreted as an effort to get over the conventional stage and move one step forward to create his own world of art.
