Description of art In “The Costume of Painter?A. Tadema Flower Vase hy” (2007), lenticular printing is applied. As seen in the title, Bae borrows the image of a masterpiece from the West by the Dutch-British painter Lawrence Alma Tadema. At the center elegantly sits a woman in a beautiful dress next to a flower vase. Her outfit, however, disappears as the viewer’s angle changes, revealing her naked body. Bae imposes a more active role to the viewers who have been a passive spectator looking at a given work. Appreciating the altering images with their own movements, the viewer participates in an active gaze, or an active voyeurism.
