Description of art Choi’s miniature human figures began to grow bigger from 2007 onwards. The enlarged figures with their delicacy sustained reveal real problems in human life more strikingly, magnifying visual effects as if looking at real humans. Notably, Choi’s recent works take the form of single figure; a girl in “The Girl” (2008) sits on a red cushion kneeling with knees and thighs together and lower legs spread outwards. This posture is easy for females to take due to their anatomical features, which signifies this work deals with concepts on gender. In addition, the red cushion symbolizing menstrual blood represents unavoidable fate as a woman juxtaposed with the grumpy facial expression of the girl.
