金南路曾經是政府辦公區，現在是城市的金融中心，街道兩旁有許多銀行、保險公司和公共機構。 5月18日運動期間，市民聚集在錦南路，一起遊行，表達哀思，支持民族昇華。現代，這條街成為市民的聚會場所，有地下商場和噴泉周圍的廣場，可以自由舉辦活動和表演。
