这条街因首尔明洞街而得名，后来成为春川市的主要街道。江原道道厅、春川市政府等政府机关和主要银行都位于附近，还有各种服装、化妆品、鞋子专卖店以及咖啡馆和餐馆。为纪念韩国电视剧《冬季恋歌》的拍摄地而建造的雕塑位于明洞街中央。此外，街上还有大型购物中心，如M百货公司和布朗第五大道、电影院等景点。以中央扶轮为基础而建立的大型地下购物中心，拥有约350家商店，顾客可以在任何天气下享受购物和休闲。明洞街连接着春川市的其他旅游景点，包括春川市明洞鸡排巷、龙林峠、春川中央市场等。
