2001년 5월 3일 개관한 대전천문대는 지역 최초로 일반에 공개된 천문대이다. 개장 이후 매년 10만 명 이상의 방문객이 방문하고 있다. 방문객들에게 별자리와 우주에 대한 정보를 제공하기 위해 다양한 체험 프로그램과 이벤트가 연중 진행된다.
