경포해수욕장 남쪽에는 두부로 유명한 초당두부마을이 있다. 초당두부는 동해바다의 바닷물과 콩을 갈아서 만든 두부로 부드럽고 담백한 맛을 자랑합니다. 이 마을의 이름인 초당은 한때 이곳에 살았던 초당허엽이라는 유명한 가문의 이름에서 유래되었습니다. 허엽은 문필가인 아들 허균(1569~1618)과 시인인 허난설헌(1563~1589)의 아버지이다. 허균과 허난설헌의 옛집이 있던 자리에 전통한옥을 재건축하였습니다.
