통영해저터널은 1931년부터 1932년까지 16개월에 걸쳐 건설된 아시아 최초의 해저터널이다. 건설을 위해 양쪽 끝에서 바닷물을 막고 터널을 지하로 파고 콘크리트로 포장했습니다. 길이 483m, 폭 5m의 터널 입구에 새겨진 한글 '용문달량'은 '섬과 육지를 연결하는 해저터널의 입구'라는 뜻이다.
