柱状節理は断面が六角形または三角形の柱状の岩石です。花岩マウル村の海岸にある柱状節理は、約2000万年前の新生代第三紀に噴出した玄武岩溶岩によってできたものです。柱状の玄武岩の地層は、溶岩が冷えて収縮して亀裂が生じる際に形成されました。岩は木材を水平または垂直に積み上げたように見えます。柱の長さは平均約20メートル、対角線は最長の断面で約50センチメートル。花岩の柱状溶岩は東海岸の柱状溶岩層の中で最も古いものであり、学術的にも貴重である。さまざまな角度から変化する岩は、観光にも最適な景観を提供します。
