Buseoksa Temple is a temple of the Hwaeomjong sect that was founded by Master Uisang, the ancestor of the Hwaeomjong in Haedong, in 676 (the 16th year of King Munmu of Silla) by royal order. It is a sword (首寺刹). When the Great Master was studying in the Tang Dynasty, he heard the news of Tang Gojong's invasion of Silla and reported this to the king. He unified the national theory with the doctrine of Hwaeom that he had developed, and used it both domestically and internationally. In order to help people overcome internal and external hardships, he returned to Korea and founded this temple, which became the birthplace of the Hwaeom ideology in Korea. It is said that the name Buseoksa Temple comes from the fact that there is a large rock to the west of the Buddhist temple, and this rock is floating without being attached to the rock below, so it is said to be a floating rock. During the Goryeo Dynasty, it was called Seondalsa Temple or Heunggyo Temple. According to the ink inscription discovered during dismantling and repair in 1916, Muryangsujeon (無量壽殿) and other buildings were rebuilt in the early Goryeo Dynasty, but in the 7th year of King Gongmin (1358), it was attacked by enemy fire and King U (King U) In the 2nd year of King U’s reign (1376), Muryangsujeon was rebuilt, and in the 3rd year of King U’s reign (1377), Josadang (祖師堂) was rebuilt.

In the precincts, there are stone lanterns (national treasures) in front of Muryangsujeon, relics from the Unified Silla period; There is a stone seated Buddha statue (treasure), three-story stone pagoda (treasure), danggan support (treasure), stone stylobate, etc., and relics from the Goryeo Dynasty include Muryangsujeon (national treasure), Josadang (national treasure), sculptured seated Buddha statue (national treasure), and Josadang mural (national treasure). , Goryeo Pavilion (treasure), Wonyung State Stele, etc. In particular, Muryangsujeon is one of the oldest wooden buildings in Korea, and the Josadang mural is the oldest among the murals painted on a wooden building and is currently stored in the relics museum. The seated Tathagata statue enshrined in Muryangsujeon is the oldest small statue handed down in Korea. It is said that the well on the west side of Muryangsujeon is the well where Master Uisang's guardian dragon lived.
