Gapyeong is the home of pine nuts, so much so that when you think of Gapyeong, pine nuts come to mind. In particular, the largest pine tree forest in Korea is located around Mt. Chuknyeong and Mt. Seori, and the ‘pine nut scented green forest’ has made its nest here. Jathyanggi Green Forest is a forest recreation space where you can enjoy forest healing programs and forest experiences. If you follow the road to the right at the fork in the road to the Garden of Morning Calm and go up about 3.5 km, you will reach the Pine Fragrance Green Forest. From the parking lot, pass the ticket office and climb about 200 meters to reach Chukryeong Baekrimgwan, the center and starting point of the Jathyanggi Green Forest. Jat Hyanggi Green Forest was created between 450 and 600 meters above sea level on Chukryeong Mountain and Seori Mountain. Pine trees were first planted after the Doyu Forest Office opened in 1924 during the Japanese colonial period. Gapyeong is a mountainous region and has a natural environment suitable for growing pine trees. The Japanese recognized this and created a land for harvesting pine trees to produce seeds. Pine Hyanggi Green Forest offers a variety of courses that children from kindergarten to families and couples can enjoy. The trail starts at Chukryeong Baekrimgwan and continues to Jathyanggi Woodworking Shop, Suspension Bridge, Slash-and-Watch Village, Healing Center, Gas Training Center, Wind Bathing Center, Sabang Dam, and Observatory. It is also possible to hike from Sabang Dam through Jeolgogae to Chukryeong Mountain or Seori Mountain.
