It is located 21km west of Incheon and 6.3km south of Ganghwa Island. The island curves slowly towards the north, has protruding rock shells in various places along the coast, and has developed sea cliffs. There are many places with superb views. Except for the two shores on the east and west, it is surrounded by wide tidal flats, and hilly mountainous areas extend from east to west, forming the skeleton of the island, with a flat area in the center. Yellow-billed egrets and black-tailed gulls, which are designated as natural monuments, live in groups in the area, and pine forests are lush throughout. Grapes, seaweed, lilies, bamboo shoots, shrimp, and clams grow in abundance. Seaweed farming was active and earned a high income, but it was halted due to the construction of the nearby Incheon International Airport. Floating boats are said to be a unique folk game.
Jangbongdo Island has excellent accessibility and is great for traveling. In addition, there are various well-maintained hiking courses and coastal trails throughout the island, so you can enjoy hiking of various difficulty levels, and there are observatories installed here and there where you can view the beautiful scenery of Jangbongdo Island. Behind Ongam Beach, there is a pine field full of old pine trees and the facilities are well-maintained, making it popular with families camping. |
