在北韓時代，宮廷侍衛是守門人，負責看守景福宮正門以及興仁之門、崇禮門等城門。侍衛輪班值班，負責光化門的開關。在1469年實行皇家衛隊制度之前，宮門由中央軍隊的士兵守護。在景福宮和光化門地區舉行的宮廷侍衛換崗儀式，根據歷史記錄再現了朝鮮時代的侍衛換崗儀式，並複製了服裝和武器。
