별마로는 영월 봉래산(고도 799.8m) 정상에 세워진 공공천문대이다. 별마로'는 별(별), 마(봉우리), 로(평화)를 합친 말이다. 이는 깨끗하고 평화로운 환경에서 별을 바라보고 싶다는 염원을 총체적으로 표현한 것입니다. 천문대에는 직경 80cm의 망원경을 포함하여 다양한 망원경이 있습니다. 전망대에는 숙박시설과 시청각실, 강의실도 갖춰져 있어 교육 프로그램으로도 적합하다.
