鳳院寺位於首爾西大門區鳳院洞安山郊外，是韓國佛教太吾的中心，是一座有著悠久歷史和傳統的千年古剎。 889年（新羅真成王后3年）道善和尚在延熙宮（現延世大學）原址創建寺院，命名為般若寺。 1592年臨津戰爭期間被毀，1748年（朝鮮英祖24年）由禪覺和正岩兩位佛教僧侶重建並更名為“鳳院寺”。 6 日，佛教儀式之一，也是國家級非物質文化遺產，都會在奉院寺舉行祈願世界和平和南北朝鮮統一的儀式。 2009年，它被聯合國教科文組織指定為人類非物質文化遺產之一。此外，夏季還會舉辦首爾蓮花文化節，遊客可以欣賞象徵佛教的美麗蓮花。
