충청북도 청주에 있는 상당산성은 청주 시내와 가까운 자연사면을 따라 축조된 산성이다. 1596년(선조 29년) 임진왜란 때 대대적으로 개량하였고, 숙종 42년에 석성으로 중건하였다.
길이 4.2㎞, 높이 3~4m의 이 성은 다양한 크기의 돌과 흙, 모래를 이용해 축조됐다. 성에는 동쪽, 서쪽, 남쪽에 각각 3개의 문이 있습니다. 세 개의 문은 거의 그대로 남아 있으며 모두 여전히 문탑을 가지고 있습니다. 남쪽의 정문인 '공남문'은 초승달 모양이고, 동·서문은 사각형이다. 동부 및 서부 지휘소도 요새 자체의 경계 내에 있습니다. 이 성은 1970년 사적 제212호로 지정되었습니다. 또한, 방문객들은 대추주(한국 전통주)와 다양한 향토 요리를 맛볼 수 있습니다. |
