アオサギ繁殖地は忠清北道鎮川市鹿谷村の裏手にある。樹齢1,000年のイチョウの木に渡り鳥たちがとまっていました。しかし、時間の経過とともに鳥の糞により木が腐り始め、その結果鳥の主な巣が失われてしまったのです。その後、鳥たちは周囲の茂みや森に住みつき始めました。アオサギの生息環境を保全し、繁殖を促進するため、天然記念物に指定されました。
