용눈이오름은 제주도 곳곳에 존재하는 많은 기생화산 중 하나로, 복잡한 화산계의 대표적인 예이다. 오름은 화산암과 흙이 혼합되어 이루어진 오름으로, 다른 오름에 비해 비교적 최근에 형성되었다. 오름은 주화산의 마그마가 주변의 약한 곳에서 새어나오면서 형성되는 작은 화산이라고 할 수 있습니다. 용눈이오름은 무성한 잔디로 덮여 있으며, 많은 야생화가 자라고 있습니다. 원뿔이라는 이름은 그 모양이 용이 누워 있는 모습을 닮았다고 해서 붙여진 것입니다.
