JEOLLANAM-DO WEATHER
Since being designated as a rural traditional theme village by the Rural Development Administration in 2004, it has established itself as an experience village visited by about 2,000 tourists a year. Haneulnari Village is the first village under the sky, with azaleas and purple flowers blooming in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall. It's a 'neighborhood'. If you follow the winding mountain road from National Highway 17 along the Seomjingang River for about 4km toward Bongdu Mountain (753m), you will come across a village surrounded by mountains on all sides. A village in Simsim Mountain Valley where you can see the sky only when you tilt your head close, this is Sanghan Village, also known as Haneulnari Village. This place is called ‘Heavenari Village’ because the Haneullili, a type of lily that blooms only in high mountainous areas in the summer, grows naturally. It is famous not only for the surrounding scenery, but also for the village scenery, which preserves the rural scenery of decades ago.

The village currently has about 60 residents from 22 households who grow rice (certified as low pesticide) in terraced rice fields. They build native bees in each house and live in harmony with each other. In the spring, they live a simple life, drinking water and picking wild vegetables, and in the fall, gathering chestnuts and picking persimmons. These special products grown in the village are 100% pollution-free, so they are inundated with orders from city residents. The main source of income for the village is honey. The honey is collected by bees from nearby hyacinth flowers, acacia flowers, and chestnut flowers, and there are many homes that keep native bees, so much so that not a single house has a beehive in its enclosure. Since every house has beehives and many bees, honey was the main theme of the village experience event. Various experiences using native honey, beehives, and bees are offered depending on the season, but making beehives and selling bee apartments are the most popular among frugal housewives. If you complete a beehive made of wood and entrust it to the residents, the sweet honey from the hive will later be delivered to your home. You can also try making a bee hive cover, ‘Beemeongdeok’, using rice straw. In addition, tasting honey rice cake with local honey and making candles with beeswax, a by-product of beehives (a substance used by bees to build nests), are popular with children. Beeswax candles, made by pouring beeswax into a bamboo tube, are more fragrant and harmless to the body than candles made with paraffin.
