Sanbangsan Hot Springs is the first public hot spring in Jeju, located in the center of the three islands (Marado, Gapado, and Hyeongjedo) and the five mountains (Hallasan, Sanbangsan, Gunsan, Songaksan, and Dansan), and is a rare carbonated hot spring in Korea. In May 2004, it was designated as a Sagye Hot Spring Source Protection District (Jeju Province Notification No. 2004-12), and in March 2005, it was established as a public hot spring facility with a land area of 11,111 m2, a building area of 1,000 pyeong, and a public hot spring that can accommodate 1,000 people at the same time. “Sanggoji (meaning rainbow in Jeju dialect),” a popular restaurant with a building area of about 150 pyeong, was opened. Since ancient times, carbonated hot springs have been known as heart springs. This is because carbon dioxide gas is absorbed from the skin and stimulates capillaries to dilate blood vessels, improving blood circulation, lowering blood pressure and reducing the burden on the heart.
* Origin of life-saving water * A long time ago, a strange disease was spreading in this area. While Mayor Daejeong was worried about not knowing how to treat the disease, an old man with white hair appeared in his dream and taught him that there was a medicine found in the hem of a bat's feather. The county magistrate, who was looking for the bat, finally saw a bat flying red in the setting sun. That was the shape of the mountain in front of me. There is a story that as soon as he inserted his sword and said, “This is the place,” water welled up from the ground, and when the residents drank the water and took a bath, their long-standing illness seemed to have disappeared. |
