Description of art “House of Shadow” (2006) is a public sculpture by Ahn from the mid- 2000s, built with two gigantic iron plates standing against each other at a right angle. One of the plates is rectangular, while the other has a triangular roof, thus creating different forms from different angles. As an outdoor installation, the shadow produced by the sun becomes an essential part of the piece, as is inferable from its title. The depth and sharpness of the shadow created by the iron plates change along with the intensity and direction of the moving sun. Even during the same time of the day, the shadow’s shape looks different depending on the angle. Ahn encourages viewers to think about the shadow that constantly changes yet is ultimately subordinate to the sun, and the ordinary objects of sun and shadow as well as the conventional relationship between a work of art and its beholder.
