Description of art This painting is one of the earliest works by Kim Hong-joo who has been committed to the condition of “painting”, that is, the question of illusion and representation. The artist replaced a painting frame, one of the conditions required to define painting, with a mirror frame, and expressed the portrait of a figure as one reflected on a mirror, thus blurring the boundary between a work of painting and actual objects. The objects of a fly and beetle combined with the devise such as a steamed surface painted in a frame cleverly maximize the illusion. It is one of the five works which have different numbers of broken glass pieces.
