Description of art “Abstract Walking?A Spiral Movement Gradually Distancing from a Single Point” (2012) is part of Kim’s 2012 collaborative project with multiple artists. The performer in the video work is choreographer Jung Young-doo expressing “abstract walking” in his own way, as per Kim’s instruction. His movement, sometimes like dance steps and other times like the staggering of a drunk man about to trip over any minute, is hard to simply call “walking.” As seen in the work’s subtitle, “A spiral movement gradually distancing from a single point,” the performer has a clear starting point but his goal point is unclear, and his behaviors are chaotic and complex. This is because Kim’s 2012 project aims at expressing “journey” in an abstract way. A story conceived by Kim is reinterpreted and expressed by the performer, his performance is again reinterpreted by viewers, and during the whole processes the meaning of the work circulates infinitely from one place to another, making it a true journey itself.
