Description of art	〈20th Century-August 1945〉(2007) is part of Choi’s 〈20th Century series〉 that evokes the contradictions and absurdities of wars in the 20th century. In the series, Choi borrowed published images of major tragic events in the 20th century, including the 1937 Nanjing Massacre, the Great Depression of the United States from 1929 to 1939, the Spanish Civil War in 1939, the Nazi concentration camps in 1945, and the Korean War in 1950, from mass media such as newspapers and magazines. This translucent work added oil paint to a red monochrome print. It highlights the characteristics of pink as Choi’s signature color, floating between red and white, as well as the fact that one should not forget that the 20th century has not passed away but continues to exist within us.
