花津浦湖是韓國最大的潟湖，是由兩個相對的沙嘴合併時封閉的部分海洋形成的。這種獨特的構造和沙洲上的生態系統受到高度重視。潟湖中的水是淡水和鹹水的混合體，為兩種水生動物共同生活創造了特殊的環境。湖呈八字形，南湖比北湖大，但北湖仍透過一條小溪與海洋相連。
